Ubon Ratchathani is a medium-sized city in the Isan (Isaan) region in the north-east of Thailand.
As one of the largest cities in Isan, it functions as a local hub for the economy, education and transportation.
The city contains several sights for visitors but perhaps of more interest to tourists is the pleasant scenery in the surrounding area, especially towards the border with Laos. This is best seen by renting a car. Once outside the city, traffic is quiet and the road quality is normally good.
For further information there is a Tourism Authority of Thailand office located at 264/1 Thanon Kheuan Thani – open daily.
